Great service! Wonderful food and even better drinks. Our waitress was also a fantastic bartender. Loved it!
Tony,Skycore Construction Great overall experience. The food was fresh and delicious. Had the Ceasar salad, it was a nice balance of an authentic dressing, cheese etc, . For the main had the lasagna, the tomato meat sauce was fresh, nice blend of flavors similar to home cooking. The staff were accommodating and attentive. Nice ambiance, nice design, a few choices for seating options. I will certainly go there again.
My husband surprised me with a date night at this charming spot, and let me tell you, the dim lighting and soft ambiance made me feel like I was in a romantic movie. We kicked things off with bruschetta, followed by the insalata di gamberi con pesto, pappardelle ai funghi, and rigatoni, plus a couple of glasses of Cabernet to set the mood. Every dish was fantastic--except for the rigatoni, which was a bit of a letdown. The red sauce tasted like it had been sitting in traffic. But honestly, with everything else being so amazing, it hardly put a dent in the evening. Definitely a place I'd recommend for a special night out!
The food was served promptly and ambiance was great. I think the food was great, I wish the pizza was cut into more slices, two cuts makes it so you're eating a 1/4 of the pizza at a time but maybe that's because of all the topping. The prosciutto was REALLY good! The pasta was great, cooked al dente. We got the meatballs which were also good. The "sailing through Sicily" gin drink was tasty without being overly sweet. We enjoy a good gin drink but maybe it's the glass and all the ice, I think you get more bang for your buck from the old fashioned. We didn't specify the whiskey so not sure what we got but it was good. One tip would be not to splurge on the sparkling water, it was fine but I guess I was expecting something you couldn't get from the grocery store maybe I misheard the waiter. One only issue we had was our drinks, there was some confusion when I changed to an old fashion, but then he brought two old fashions to make up for it (but by mistake). It's fine it was a busy section he was overall very nice and patient.
Really enjoyed our food here. We got the calamari, burrata, lobster risotto and the mushroom pasta dish. The fried zucchini in the calamari was fantastic! We thought the calamari was a bit chewy. The burrata was good but pretty lemony or herby for a burrata dish. The lobster risotto was good but I would recommend sharing. It was VERy sharp with the cheese. The waiter gave us a recommendation on the wine and it was great! Try out Aviary. Overall, enjoyed it but would choose something different next time we are in town on business.
TL;DR: fantastic pizza, pasta, drinks, and service. Get the pappardelle ai funghi! Came by for a Friday date night. They validate garage parking, which is always nice! Ambience: clean, dark, and sophisticated. I initially felt underdressed wearing sneakers, but it turned out to be fine. Service: Maria was extremely friendly and gave the best recommendations (which I'll get to). Thank you, Maria! Drinks: we had the Italian paloma and Italian margarita. Paloma was overall more balanced, so would stick with that next time. Both drinks were STRONG, in a very good way. Food: we ordered the following, as per recommendations: -meatball starter (polpette al sugo): very solid, but might try a different starter next time like calamari. -pappardelle ai funghi pasta: AMAZING, must get IMO. Creamy, savory, and not too truffly. -vulcano pizza: also amazing flavors and probably the best Neapolitan pizza I've had in Dallas, but I could be convinced to get their award winning margherita instead... maybe. -cannoli trio: all great, but especially loved the pistachio and lemon. -Ferrero Rocher gelato: also great, but might skip next time. Price: pretty reasonable for Italian in Dallas, and even more so considering the quality of food/drinks/service. Honestly, the food was on par with what I've eaten in Italy - I'll definitely come back for the pasta and to try other things on the menu! Until then, I'll dream about that pappardelle ai funghi...
This restaurant is located a few steps from the JW Marriott on Harwood. We did not have a reservation but it was not a problem and we were seated promptly. The ambiance is upscale and modern. It was a pleasant setting for a meal. The wife and I started with the Italian margarita ($15). They were excellent, even dangerous. I had two. We started with the Caesar salad. We ordered one salad to split but the waitress changed that to two half salads which she said was a bit cheaper. That was fine. The salads, however, had no flavor whatsoever. No garlic, no anchovy, no anything. Zero flavor. That was odd. I have had bad Caesar dressing before, but never one that had zero flavor. The kid had spaghetti with red sauce and loved it, so much that she had a second bowl which almost never happens. The wife had pasta with mushrooms and loved it. The pasta is fresh and the sauce had a deep, robust flavor. It was excellent. I had the Bolognese and it too was excellent. The red sauce had a deep, rich flavor. The pasta was fresh. The red sauce was a bit sweet and not at all acidic. I could not stop eating it, even after I was full. We split a piece of cheesecake for dessert and it was not good. It had a weird texture and did not really taste like cheesecake at all. Neither one of us liked it. Our server Heather was super friendly and helpful. She was energetic and really seemed to like her job. So, the salad and cheesecake were not good, but the pasta dishes were 5 star each. I more or less averaged everything out to come to 4 stars.
